Hamamelis virginiana

American Witch-hazel blooms in October at the NEMT Forest.

During the months of October and November, we find the American witch-hazel, Hamamelis virginiana, a native flowering shrub of eastern North America, blooming in the understory of the NEMT Forest. The flowers have four slender bright yellow petals, which curl up at near freezing temperatures and uncurl when warmer.
