Who are Friends of Wakefield’s NEMT Forest?

Friends of NEMT Forest was organized to promote, develop, and provide continuing support for the preservation, scientific study, and public education of and about the natural heritage found in the bedrock outcrop forest and forested wetlands formerly the western-most part of Breakheart Hill forest in Wakefield. We offer weekly guided nature walks to explore the unique interconnected plant and animal communities that have taken a long time to develop and are irreplaceable.

'Friends’ is working with numerous local volunteers and organizations to prevent the destruction of the NEMT Forest and raise awareness of the plan to build the new Northeast Metro Tech Vocational School where the hilltop forest currently stands. We believe students will benefit from a safer, more accessible school, and a better learning experience, if the new school is built in existing open space and the forest is preserved for current and future generations.

Please follow our effort by following this blog. A few times per week we will share short updates and summaries on key information about the forest and the effort to protect it. Scroll to view the latest posts or filter posts using tags to read about the topics that are most interesting to you.
